Structures & Retrofitting

In civil engineering, retrofitting refers to the process of increasing the strength and resistance of a structure (building) against external forces or environmental factors. It is one of the key and fundamental aspects of the strategy to reduce vulnerability to earthquakes by strengthening existing buildings at minimal cost, quickly, and in a straightforward manner, thereby preserving the lives of citizens during moderate to severe earthquakes and, in essence, raising the threshold for building collapse.
